981…Waiting in anticipation – Running Report page 9

Izzy – Posted October 10, 2014

That’s a joke on a new car like yours?

When you look at other manufacturers cars they don’t all seem to suffer with this issue Audi’s look like they go the distance

Stuart21UK – Posted October 10, 2014

987 never has the issue…anyway had a call back yesterday…been referred, got standard Porsche response back including ‘if you look at most roofs you will find wear marks’

Awaiting second referral…

Stuart21UK – Posted October 26, 2014

second referral basically the same….standard feature on all Boxsters…poppy-c*ck….if it is it’s a design flaw…no roof should rub itself and cause wear…

Awaiting second referral…

winter prep for winter wheel set….

using this

after washing, drying & treating

I’ll await comments from the Patio Police (special arm of the driveway inspectorate 🙂 )

The Zunsport kit arrived earlier in the week (pretty promptly). I had bought the two front side grilles mainly to protect ingress of leaves, cigarette butts and generally protect the radiators from stones etc. I also bought the centre grille to complete the look as I really don’t like the look of the standard black plastic (think it looks a bit cheap). Overall with a 15% discount it was about £200.

Kit – includes two badges which can be fitted with supplied buts and washers but are not necessary (and ruin a clean look). You get two screws to attach the centre grille and colour printed fitting instructions for each part. You also get a membership card which gives future discounts of 15% (and anyone else who uses your membership number at checkout is entitled to the same).

I had to clean out the leaves and other bits and pieces before installation, you can also just about see the damage done to the radiators in the last 12000 miles too.

Stuart I didn’t know Zunsport did the mesh for the 981 so thanks for the info. As I’m pretty useless at DIY was the installation straight forward and does it involve removing any trim etc?

Stuart21UK – Posted November 2, 2014

yes really easy, took 30 mins or so (would have been less if I hadn’t taken pics!)

Kevin G – Posted November 3, 2014

Thanks, I’ve looked at the Zunsport site and they are quoting £253 for the full black set. If you don’t mind telling how did you get the price down to £200? As an aside 911 shop on Amazon wants £300!

Looking good Stuart. I ordered mine over the weekend, so looking forward to installing them shortly. I will post pictures once done.

Looks good Stuart – nice job. Might be interested in doing this.

Stuart21UK – Posted November 3, 2014

you ever want to see them in person before you take the plunge, let me know… 🙂

temporarychicken – Posted November 14, 2014

Now you have got those new front grilles, where will you store all your dead leaves?

Stuart21UK – Posted November 14, 2014

all over the driveway to hide the moss! :thumbsup_still:

Kevan – Posted November 21, 2014

Stuart – thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread, very informative.

Stuart21UK – Posted November 21, 2014

Thanks Kevan, I try to keep it as a kind of diary/blog :)

RBD914 – Posted December 1, 2014

Stuart – I would like to know where I can get those Zunsport front grilles for £200 too please!

bi-annual winter wheel swap done

20″ Carrera S wheels with Pirelli’s

to 19″ Cayman S’s with Conti’s

I really prefer the Carrera’s….

Stuart21UK – Posted March 27, 2015

The wheels were swapped back with the kind help (cohersion) of Spydeman prior to our PH meet up at the Fly in Clophill on the 20th March…pics here

I love the look of the 20″ Carrera’s but swapping back this time I noticed the slightly harder ride compared to the 19″ winter wheels (must be getting old!)…

I also I very much noticed the ‘ackermans effect’ when maneuvering and the fact that they are a bit more skittish on the road…even in the dry I think the 19″ Conti winter tyres stick to the road better than the 20″ Pirelli PZero’s…(they are infinitely better in the wet too).

I may try a different brand for the 20″ tyres when the time comes in a few months time (going to be limited options though if N rating is something to stick with :thumbsdown_anim:

Yesterday the Cayenne was Gtechniq’d and after doing so I got Mark (of Hawk Valeting who is local to me) to redo the Gtechniq G1 ClearVision Smart Glass on the Box…the car has now covered almost 16000 miles it was working a little less than when first put on 18 months ago…the cost £20 and if it lasts another 18 months/16000 miles then its worth every penny 🙂

Fantastic pictures, some very nice cars..

The 458 is an unusual colour and big risk…

spyderman8 – Posted March 28, 2015

Stuart: does Mark do interiors? I’ve noticed the bolsters on my Sports seats could do with attention – they’re starting to craze.

Stuart21UK – Posted March 28, 2015

not sure…

give him a ring, he’s now in Hockliffe

cream 458

the white balance was tweaked on those pics to try and get the picture looking as close to the correct colour as possible…doesn’t quite manage it as the colour was slightly whiter than it looks (less cream)…same issues as trying to photograph guards red and make it not look either orange or pink…the 458 looked very nice in that colour IMO 🙂

Thanks – I’ve emailed him.

The winter tyres would be more compliant too, so that would factor in to the change of ride.

Stuart21UK – Posted March 28, 2015

yeah figured that but they also seem more stuck to the road, I would hazard a guess they would be up to the summer tyre grip levels in the summer and maybe just wear slightly more…honestly I believe I could run them all year round without too much detriment in cost/road adhesion…except I love the 20″ wheels 🙂
