So I was queuing in traffic on the way into town and this happened!
The Freelander reversed up into me whilst making room to allow a car to exit the cul-de-sac to the left.
The result was that my car and the Freelander were locked together. No amount of pushing down on mine, or trying to pull up on his bumper would release us. This was evening rush hour on a busy road into town…the traffic was backed up behind us…
I called the AA and they gave an hour and a half ETA (!)
A few passers by looked and scratched their heads, then a friendly mechanic ran back to get his socket set and proceeded to take the bolt out that hold his tow bar onto the mounting bracket….hey presto!
so in about 15 minutes we were able to get on our way after exchanging insurance details.
He admitted full responsibility and after an insurance assessment the car was booked into a local (ish) Porsche approved bodyshop for the front bumper to be resprayed. They had the car for almost 3 weeks and in the interim I had a Porsche Cayman as a loan car. The book price for the hire of the car was £300 + vat per day making the overall claim in the £8000 to 9000 region, all covered by his insurance (thank the lord!).
The whole process took approximately 3 months start to finish (have to wait for assessment, approval of claim and work and then obtain a suitable time for them to do the work). All a pain to go through, and I was without my soft top for 3 weeks of the sunny weather. At least I ended up with a stone chip free bumper at the end of it!
