yes, I took them off before it went to the bodyshop, also the car was at the OPC for warranty renewal so thought best that they came off to not cause issues with warranty and/or the bodyshop losing or damaging them…need to find time at the w/e to put them back on

Good idea ?

There’s plenty of time, if you’ve got no lawn at the front of the house to mow, and neglect weeding the edge of the pea shingle. 😉

Looking good Stuart, you just need to keep the exhaust tips clean! 😉

Thanks, I’ve looked at the Zunsport site and they are quoting £253 for the full black set. If you don’t mind telling how did you get the price down to £200? As an aside 911 shop on Amazon wants £300!

Hi boxsternoob56 .. Would you mind sharing how you got the extra discount with me too please when you get a moment ?

Thanks in advance !

So winter wheel swap done today….no great trauma except I think my locking wheel nut key is feked….I know the consesus from a lot of owners is that they are more pain than they are worth but I prefer the reassurance that they will prevent a theft of the wheels (as unlikely as that maybe).

So I will have to source either a new key or new set of bolts and key from Porsche prior to doing the reverse wheel swap in the early spring..

I believe the keys may be ordered individually ?

special order no doubt from Germany….not sure if its safer to get a set of bolts as well though..

The keys they provide with the 981 are rubbish – they’re made of what looks like a really cheap alloy, and the design of them means there is a pretty thin section outside each of the ‘lobes’, so if the key is not 100% on the bolt head, the thin section breaks or bends when you put any pressure on it. I had to gently tap mine back onto the bolt head last time to straighten it, and I think I will ask the OPC to replace it, but I’m sure a replacement will be no better. Like you, I’d prefer to use it rather than do without, but I really don’t want to get stranded somewhere if a garage breaks it while trying to replace a blown tyre.

I feel the same and agree on the design.

I had a look at alternatives but they look easier to unlock without a key…

Not sure I would get them replaced under warranty…I spose’ its maybe worth a call mind…

I took to utilising some 3M wrap that @Johnsyn gave me at one of our meetings…his intention was to use it to wrap his Spyder in a matt silver…he gave me a portion about 200 mm square and I used about 50% of it (wrapping the sides twice as it didnt come out as I’d like the first time)

the 981 key before taking apart

the sides after removal (youtube link at the bottom of the page)

wrapping the sides (two attempts on both to get it ok, having never wrapped anything before)

once trimmed

then the back portion

all the parts lined up

the sides put back on

back put back on

battery cover wrapped

all done

side by side the wrapped one and the spare

I’ll wait to see how hard wearing it is, particulalry as the platic part of the key does lock into the ignotion….

…a guide to taking the key apart is below (really easy)

summer wheel swap done

also I touched up a scrape on one of the alloys, wanting to protect rather than completely resolve it…as it showed 3 layers scraped away before…

Stuart21UK – Posted April 27, 2017

car is sounding like a 718 at present, under different conditions…like the start of a blowing exhaust gasket or something….it is therefore booked into Porsche next Thursday..we’ll see what they say whilst I do some work at one of their desks and drink all their nice coffee (and nick some jelly 911’s :icecream:)
