981…Waiting in anticipation – Running Report page 25

Stuart21UK – Posted June 29, 2019

ALSO

following on from the hire car as above (Corsa 1.? litre), it went back (we’d done 30 miles in the 8 days in it so that was £130 well spent!) and we picked up an eGolf from EV Centre in CMK at £85 for a whole week!

I have to say the projected range of 158 miles when the battery was fully charged seems optimistic (I’d lost about 7 miles range before getting 2 miles down the road onto the A5 to come home)….and after 13 miles to get home it showed 121 a mile range (so 13 miles cost 37). I then picked up one of the girls on an 8 mile strip and gained 2 miles range in the process!

By the end of the day I’d probably done 4 trips totalling about 30 miles and lost 59 miles of range.

The following day I did about 35 miles and it went down another 30 miles in range (I must be mastering being efficient!) choosing to take it instead of the 981!

Regenerative braking has 3 or 4 levels and on the most aggressive you pretty much dont need to use the brakes if you anticipate well enough (except at traffic lights etc).

I also noticed how less aggressively I drive it, compared to the 981 (which is 100 leptons + PSE + Sport mode most of the time!)

It’s having it’s first charge since Wednesday, today (although it’s not been used every day and the range still showed 67 miles when I connected it up and indicates 8 hours planned charge time in a normal 13 amp socket to get to full battery)

some pictures are below

pick up and demo on the 25th – range showing 158 miles

at home and after a few trips during the day (range now showing 99 miles after about 30 actual miles travel)

instrument binnacle on the 27th (before using for a few trips done during the day)

down to this at close on the 27th and at point of charging (showing 8 hours to charge)

Sure it’s no sports car but it handles like a (semi) go-kart, is fast enough to 60 for sensible driving and costs approximately £5 to fully charge (I’d estimate you’d get 120 miles out of that, maybe more if you use some sense). I think the top speed is 93 mph and I really wouldn’t want to be doing more than 75 in it and feel safe (as safe as +20-30 mph in the 981 on a similar road!).

It’s ideal for shorter trips, cheap

running costs etc and A road and town driving with a bit of dual carriageway too BUT you wouldn’t want to use it fro motorway commutes of any length, I’d get bored shyateless sitting around the 70 mpg being efficient etc. Good car though, definitely the future IMO (even looked at what they cost on the VW configurator!).

Oh and like I said above, I used the 981 today in the sun…very proud to report that it was the ying to the eGolf’s yang

:)

I paid an Indie to do it in the end properly but the kit I bought was this

and would have done the job if the operator was more capable!

The Wickes one would have been about 4 times to long and probably way too wide….

clearing up Photobucket before I dump them I found this…amazing wha tyou can get away with in a sports car

Stuart21UK –  Posted November 7, 2019

grrr

I used my car earlier and it was fine…I left the appointment 3 hours later and turned the key to start the engine (which it did) but the cabin blower has failed again…

So…it’s been replaced under Porsche Warranty (in 2017 IIRC)

and then the resistor went in it in early 2019 (the fan wouldnt stop running even with the car locked and no key in the ignition!)

now its just stopped working again…

I suspect its a relatively easy fix, these do fail and the Porsche fix now is not to replace but simply gain access to the fan and give it a spin (not sure if thats when its powered or not) to ‘kick start’ it…

so over the next few (cold) days thats a job for me to attempt 🙁

well that was the easiest fix I ever had…next time I got in the car it just worked!

I had a low oil level warning just 10 days after a service – 2 days later it also just disappeared….I’m not usually that lucky !

Stuart21UK – Posted November 14, 2019

Steve came around yesterday to help me fix my ashtray and a rattle behind the passenger door card….photos and write up to follow

first update….Unicorns

main thread here

http://www.boxa.net/forum/topic/80579-unicorns-for-charity/?page=7

Just to bring this to a close (although any further donations are welcome!)

I finally took the decals off the car the other day with @Ringer250

I crapped myself when taking off the larger Unicorn, as I peeled it I thought it had taken off the paint from the bumper 🙁

I’d got quite attached to the decals in the end and after having them on for almost a year only removed them to make sure no long lasting paint damage was done 🙂

The wife’s car still has them on mind 😉

Anyway on behalf of @Mattman42 @John K and myself I’d like to thank everyone who donated….and ahead of time wish everyone a Merry Christmas

We raised £1635 in the end

second update….

13th November 2019 – @Ringer250 helped me fix my broken ashtray

third update…..

Steve also helped me fix a rattle (well nothing found that rattled, but there’s no rattle anymore!)

Stuart21UK – Posted January 13

a video to capture PSE in full effect on a manual flat 6

It was taken on my Mobius dashcam…I really need an external mic for better sound but the exhaust notes reverberates lovely against the metal sidings on the right hand side of the slip road.

Stuart21UK – Posted February 16

had another PSE splat earlier….I really need to sort out an extrernal mic for this 🙂
