981…Waiting in anticipation – Running Report page 5

Stuart21UK – Posted October 10, 2013
exactly…it had 11 delivery miles….the 1004 are all mine 🙂

Stuart21UK – Posted October 12, 2013
Yey…today I was the lucky owner of not one….but two punctures! (fortunately in the same tyre)

Less than 4 weeks into ownership, at circa 1000 miles…and I picked up a screw PLUS a third the way around a nail in one of the rear tyres… 🙁

I was not pleased to find these, and a flat tyre at 3:45pm on a Satruday I can tell you!

Despite this I cracked out the Porsche compressor, pumped the offending tyre up and drove a cautious 12 miles or so to a tyre place I’d previously used (having phoned ahead to check they were open…and what time I needed to get there by)

15 mins later I drove out with a double repaired tyre and £20 down (or £260 up, if you consider what a new tyre would have cost). :thumbsup_anim:

tyre 1

tyre 2

Thankfully I wont have to face the weekend without the car now 🙂

Stuart21UK – Posted October 12, 2013
another pic of the car…

PowerMalc – Posted October 12, 2013
How long did it take to get the compressor out, read the manual (!) and get it pumped up to 33psi.

And how far had you driven with a flat tyre or detected you had a flat.

I’ve never had a tyre compressor set up until this Boxster

Stuart21UK – Posted October 13, 2013
didn’t drive it flat at all as I noticed it flat on the driveway….

manual…there is one?

the compressor was easy to find under the plastic thing in the front boot…centred in the bulkhead sort of area

5 minutes to get it to 35 psi, twas hard to read on the gauge and seemed to struggle inflating when it got to around that point, with the needle not showing a constant reading…

You’ve got Porsche Assistance for 2-3 years anyway so if you never fancy rummaging for the compressor you just call the men that know… :thumbsup_still:

Really stunning car. Was that West London you bought it from? How were they?

Stuart21UK – Posted October 13, 2013
no Silverstone, and ok except the lack of info on ‘Spec’ lock date…

Duffy3074 – Posted October 13, 2013
I’m surprised they were able to patch the nail that was right on the shoulder of the tyre, must have been very marginal.

Stuart21UK – Posted October 17, 2013
I’ve been meaning to do a mini review/write up ala Paul O….I’m nowhere near as eloquent and haven’t found the time.

I did see a very apt quote on Planet 9 which very succinctly described the joy of owning a 981 (and what I remember of becoming a 987 owner in 2008 too!)

Distance to grocery store: 0.8 miles
Items on grocery list: 3
Total miles driven to pick up groceries: 44.5

I so love this car :wub_anim:

Duffy3074 – Posted October 17, 2013

Brilliant!

Stuart21UK – Posted October 26, 2013
Well I’ve gone and done it….the wife shouted at me this morning so it gave me a good excuse to get further into her bad books and order a Porsche winter wheel/tyre set

….as Steveod says post #41 on

…there’s always a deal to be done so asking the OPC for a better price than the £2762, I got them for £2486 (10% off)….currently awaiting delivery and some cold weather!

I just thought it’s the bargain of the century, the wheels alone are supposedly £1100 a corner, the tyres around £1000 for a set (think they will come with the new Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4’s)…AND they will swap and store year to year, with no extra cost (except an expectation I will order replacement tyres from them too, but I reckon they will last 3 years and I must be able to recoup at least 50% of the original cost just selling the rims if I had to then anyway)

Photoshop before and after below (or rather after and before 🙂 ) –

I went for the 19” Cayman S’s for winter at the top and have the 20” Carrera S’s already as per the bottom pic

SFO – Posted October 26, 2013

I like the Cayman S wheels a lot

temporarychicken – Posted October 26, 2013

Great stuff! Ten percent discount is really good. How long before they arrive?

The current weather is good so a wait of two weeks will be no bad thing anyhow.

Stuart21UK – Posted October 26, 2013

I think he said 7-10 days but I think I’ll be ok until late November anyway :thumbsup_still:

PowerMalc – Posted October 26, 2013

Are they any good in a hurricane :whistle1:

Nice choice of wheel :thumbsup_still:

Switched from the same Anthracite Carrera S wheels (on GR ‘S’) also to the silver Cayman S with winter tyres this weekend. Grabbed a bargain offer from my OPC who had a ‘surplus’ set of new rims and had fitted a set of Winter tyres to help move them on. Probably a one off deal – they even fitted them and offered to deliver my summer wheels back to me. Just need some colder weather now.

Here is a video I took today, trying to demonstrate the difference between normal and PSE on a 981….

Youtube has turned a decent video into one that looks ‘degraded’, apologies in advance

What is impossible to capture is the pops and crackles you get…you should be able to hear the deeper more bassy and louder tone however 🙂

it’s at about 2:30 that I turned the PSE on…the stock exhaust is plenty good on its own TBH, the PSE just adds an extra level of excitement :thumbsup_still:

Stuart21UK – Posted November 6, 2013
clip of my youngest out for a ride in the cold but sunny weather at the weekend…..

I couldn’t bare to put the car away for the winter…

not bad for a £60 HD video recorder eh?

yeah at 3:53 I had a smile like I often do having gone for a spin…it’s like a

‘I’m a lucky bugger driving this, I love it so much’ type moment… 🙂

todea20 – Posted November 11, 2013

The sound with pse on is just great! Can’t wait to see how mine will sound with the valvetronic..standard is just so quiet

Duffy3074 – Posted November 11, 2013

Excellent video, well impressed!

Boxa_Dan – Posted November 12, 2013

Lovely looking car :thumbsup_still: , enjoy it.

Stuart21UK – Posted November 23, 2013

The winter wheels are now on, along with 19″ Continental WinterContact TS 830 P’s

Silverstone OPC even gave mine a wash, inc. cleaning the old wheels prior to storing and all at no cost (except the purchase of the wheel/tyre set)

I can report no discernible difference in ride quality either, going to 19″ 40 profile tyres from 20″ 35 profile, maybe I’ll notice it when they are swapped the other way around though more….

before

20″ Carrera S’s

Carrera S wheels

after

19″ Cayman S’s
